Festivals
There
are around 20 festivals in Judaism and these include:
- Shabbat - the
Sabbath, every Saturday
- Yom Kippur - the
Day of Atonement
- Rosh Hashanah
- New Year
- Pesakh
- Passover
- Purim
- Feast of Weeks
- Succot
- Festival of Booths
- Fast of Av
- commemorating the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem and other significant
sad days for the Jews
There are special rituals
and prayers to accompany most life cycle events - birth, Brit Millah (circumcision),
naming, bar mitzvah/bat mitzvah, marriage and death.
