Festivals

There are around 20 festivals in Judaism and these include:

• Shabbat - the Sabbath, every Saturday
• Yom Kippur - the Day of Atonement
• Rosh Hashanah - New Year
• Pesakh - Passover
• Purim - Feast of Weeks
• Succot - Festival of Booths
• Fast of Av - commemorating the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem and other significant sad days for the Jews

There are special rituals and prayers to accompany most life cycle events - birth, Brit Millah (circumcision), naming, bar mitzvah/bat mitzvah, marriage and death.
